Mark said: “I’m delighted and honoured to have been selected as the Labour Party candidate for the place that I have made my home.
“As an active member of the community, I have been involved in several initiatives in the area, including as a trustee of a charity that has brought one of Epsom’s largest community centres back into use, running and cycling in local clubs, planting trees with the local tree board, and challenging Thames Water on the appalling sewage discharges into our rare chalk stream, the Hogsmill.
“I believe in strong communities and opportunities for all. Epsom, Ewell, Ashtead and Leatherhead are all great places to live but our communities have suffered greatly under the Lib Dems and the Tories over the last fourteen years. Now it’s time for change and to get our future back.
“We should not forget that the problems really started under the Coalition Government which slashed funding for public services in Surrey to unsustainable levels. This is why our roads are crumbling, our hospitals are collapsing, and nothing seems to work any more.
“It’s time to get the NHS back off its knees, get more teachers into schools, stop the sewage going into our streams, fill the potholes and grab the greener, brighter future our country deserves.
“It’s time for Epsom, Ewell, Ashtead and Leatherhead to have an MP who knows our community and understands the challenges it faces. Difficulties getting GP appointments, the terrible shortage of NHS dentists and the police not having the resources they need to tackle crime and anti-social behaviour.”
Mark added: “An MP who will listen and help no matter what your political allegiance, who will be available on your doorsteps, or at the end of a phone line, and holding surgeries open to everyone.
“I’ll be visiting every area of the constituency over the next five weeks and I hope we’ll be able to find time to meet and talk.”
