Sadly our friend and colleague Marita Gerrard died last week.

She has been our Disability Officer for several years and had been an active advocate for disability issues for many years. She had many friends and connections with other local labour parties and was held in high esteem by all who met her.

Here are some comments from our members which we hope serve as a fitting tribute to Marita:

‘She has always been passionate about everything she did especially the rights of the disabled. She will be greatly missed. Such heart-breaking news.’

‘Marita always spoke so passionately and honestly about so many things that matter to so many people but often don’t get said.’

‘This is an awful shock and thank you for letting us know. Marita was indeed a shining light as herself, for The Labour Party and for E&E CLP and probably one of the first people I met when I became an active member. I will miss her and may Marita Rest in Peace.’

‘I’ve known Marita now for a good few years now and her commitment and drive never wavered although at times we knew she was not well.’

‘This is awful news. Marita was such a passionate and committed Labour member and always contributed greatly to our discussions. I’ll miss her as a Labour colleague.’

‘Marita has been active in our CLP for many years and was always a cheerful friendly face, she stood up for what she believed in and will be sadly missed.’

‘It was wonderful to see Marita and she was always so friendly, we’ve lost a truly exceptional member, may she rest in peace.’

‘I am so sorry. I didn’t know Marita well, but she always struck me as a lovely person and very committed. A sad loss and my condolences to those of you who knew her well.’
